## Idea A — "City Grain" (British Institutional Minimalism)
**Design Movement:** Late-modernist British institutional design — think Economist covers, Barclays Private Bank, Linklaters branding.

**Core Principles:**
- Restraint over decoration — every element earns its place
- Typographic hierarchy as the primary visual tool
- Asymmetric editorial layouts borrowed from financial print media
- Silence and whitespace as signals of confidence

**Color Philosophy:**
Deep navy (#0D1B2A) as the dominant ground — conveys authority without aggression. Warm off-white (#F5F1EB) for body areas — avoids clinical sterility. A single accent: aged brass/gold (#B8962E) used sparingly for rule lines and hover states. The palette says "we've been here a long time and we'll be here long after."

**Layout Paradigm:**
Asymmetric editorial columns — a narrow left column anchors navigation labels and section markers; the right two-thirds carries content. Hero section uses a full-bleed dark panel with large typographic lockup, no imagery. Sections separated by thin horizontal rules rather than cards or boxes.

**Signature Elements:**
- Thin brass rule lines (1px) as section dividers and decorative accents
- Large, restrained serif numerals used as section counters
- Generous line-height body copy set in a humanist serif

**Interaction Philosophy:**
Interactions are deliberate and slow — 300ms ease-out transitions. Hover states reveal underlines rather than colour fills. No bouncing, no scaling. The site should feel like turning pages in a well-bound report.

**Animation:**
Fade-in on scroll (opacity 0→1, translateY 20px→0, 400ms ease-out). Navigation link underlines draw left-to-right on hover (200ms). No parallax. No looping animations.

**Typography System:**
- Display: Playfair Display — used for hero headings and section titles only
- Body: Source Serif 4 — 17px, line-height 1.75, warm and readable
- Labels/Nav: Cormorant SC (small caps) — adds institutional character without fussiness

## Idea B — "Quiet Authority" (Contemporary British Professional)
**Design Movement:** Contemporary UK professional services — Rothschild & Co, Lazard, Cavendish Corporate Finance aesthetic.

**Core Principles:**
- Confident use of negative space — the site breathes
- Clean geometric structure with editorial proportions
- Muted, sophisticated palette that avoids tech-startup clichés
- Content-first: typography and copy carry the weight, not imagery

**Color Philosophy:**
Charcoal (#1C1C1E) for primary text and the top navigation bar. Warm white (#FAFAF8) background. A single accent: deep forest green (#2C4A3E) — uncommon in finance, signals stability and longevity without the overused navy. Used for CTAs, active states, and subtle section backgrounds.

**Layout Paradigm:**
Full-width sections with generous vertical rhythm. Hero uses a split layout — left half large typographic statement, right half a single high-quality architectural/abstract image. About page uses a two-column text layout with pull-quotes. Contact page is stripped back to essentials — a form and an address block, nothing more.

**Signature Elements:**
- Thin vertical rule lines separating columns
- Pull-quotes set in large italic serif
- Subtle grain texture overlay on hero section (5% opacity noise)

**Interaction Philosophy:**
Smooth, unhurried. Links and buttons respond with colour transitions rather than movement. The contact form fields have clean focus states with a green bottom-border rather than a full box outline.

**Animation:**
Section entrance: staggered fade-up (opacity + translateY, 50ms stagger between elements). Navigation: no animation on desktop, smooth slide-in drawer on mobile. Scroll-linked progress indicator on long pages.

**Typography System:**
- Display: Cormorant Garamond — elegant, distinctly British, used for H1 and H2
- Body: DM Sans — clean, modern, highly legible at small sizes
- Accent/Labels: DM Sans Medium, tracked out at 0.08em for section labels

## Idea C — "The Long View" (Understated Prestige)
**Design Movement:** Private wealth and advisory house aesthetic — Arbuthnot Latham, Cazenove Capital, Montagu Private Equity.

**Core Principles:**
- Prestige through restraint — nothing shouts, everything implies
- Long-form editorial rhythm — sections feel like chapters
- Structural asymmetry anchored by a fixed left-margin rule
- Colour used almost monochromatically, with one warm accent

**Color Philosophy:**
Warm stone (#EDE8DF) as the page background — immediately distinguishes from tech-white competitors. Deep slate (#1A2332) for headings and nav. Mid-tone warm grey (#8C8279) for body text. Accent: terracotta/rust (#A0522D) — rare in finance, signals craft and independence. Used only for the logo mark, active nav items, and button borders.

**Layout Paradigm:**
A persistent left-margin rule (a thin vertical line) anchors all pages — section labels sit rotated 90° against this rule. Main content occupies a generous centred column (max-width 760px for body text). Hero is typographic only — no hero image — relying entirely on scale and weight contrast.

**Signature Elements:**
- Rotated vertical section labels along the left margin rule
- Oversized drop-cap on the first paragraph of the About page
- Thin horizontal rules with a small diamond or square midpoint marker

**Interaction Philosophy:**
The site rewards attention. Hover states are subtle colour shifts. The contact form is minimal — no floating labels, just clean underline inputs. Navigation is top-right aligned, sparse.

**Animation:**
Page transitions: a thin horizontal rule sweeps across the viewport on route change (300ms). Section reveals: text lines fade in sequentially (30ms stagger per line). No hero video, no parallax.

**Typography System:**
- Display: Libre Baskerville — authoritative, traditional, excellent at large sizes
- Body: Lora — a serif optimised for reading, warm and considered
- Labels: Libre Baskerville Italic, small, tracked
